Leave Everything For The Last Moment And Enjoy That Adrenaline

Leave everything for the last moment and enjoy that adrenaline

Leaving everything for the last minute sometimes becomes a way of life. Those who are like this, no matter how hard they try to organize their time and act differently, they can’t. They organize for a few days, but then they return to the same dynamic.

Those who tend to leave everything to the last minute are people who live on the edge. There are basically two ways to approach it. On the one hand, there are procrastinators, who compulsively postpone what they have to do or never complete it. On the other hand, there are the adrenaline junkies, who, somehow, enjoy feeling that time is upon them.

In both cases it is a behavior that affects people’s lives, sometimes seriously. The situation is not always in control and the consequences could be onerous. Not to mention that life turns into chaos: leaving everything for the last minute contributes to mental disorder and prevents taking advantage of time.

It is said that a person is addicted to danger when he deliberately seeks situations that put his integrity or peace of mind at risk. When we talk about them, we think of those who practice extreme sports or perform dangerous work. However, those who tend to leave everything to the last minute sometimes also belong to this group.

Seemingly pushing yourself to the limit is something that brings them pleasure. Walk along the edge of the abyss and not fall, but feel the risk of emptiness on your skin. In some of them this is compulsory. In other words, they cannot avoid doing this repeatedly. They enjoy feeling like they can stay in control in extreme situations.

It should be noted that under these states of extreme risk there is a significant segregation of adrenaline. In turn, adrenaline production stimulates dopamine secretion. The latter is a substance that produces a feeling of great emotional well-being. A very pleasant state is experienced. Therefore, deliberately putting yourself at risk, if you end up avoiding it, generates a very great feeling of satisfaction.

Some of the people who get into the habit of leaving everything to the last minute are addicted to adrenaline. They feel that they work best when they are on the edge, as they end up with great satisfaction at having beaten the risk. Also for having experienced an increase in dopamine.

Those who procrastinate

Other people get into the habit of leaving everything to the last minute because they have a tendency to deliberately postpone their commitments and tasks. These are subjects who have more time than necessary to do what they have to do, but decide that they will only do it when there is no more time left than they really need. They even take the risk of never doing it, if they finally miscalculate and don’t arrive on time.

These are not lazy or negligent people. They simply incorporate that style of behavior into their way of life and find it basically impossible to do otherwise. They feel anxious, stressed, and embarrassed by putting off their commitments. However, they cannot help it. If they do finally comply, they are so exhausted that they postpone what follows. And the cycle begins again.

Procrastinators calculate time. It is not distraction or carelessness. They have perfectly identified what is that moment in which the necessary time and the available time is adjusted. In fact, they torment themselves over what to do. They do not lose sight of it, but they keep it in mind. They just wait until they “feel better” to do what they have to. In the end that moment never comes and it is the end of the term that makes them get down to work.

The consequences of this type of behavior

Both in the case of people who tend to leave everything to the last minute due to their fondness for adrenaline, and in the case of procrastinators, the consequences, sooner or later, tend to be very negative. It is not always possible to comply with the agreement and this generates chaos and difficulty in organizing their lives.

In the case of adrenaline junkies, it is unexpressed anguish that prevails. Risky behaviors are a way to cover up that unresolved conflict that causes anxiety. Danger only helps to dispel that inner feeling.

Many procrastinators, on the other hand, are highly insecure people. They fear that their performance is not adequate and therefore they postpone the moment of doing what they should. This also provides a good argument if things go wrong. “I did it in a hurry and under a lot of pressure,” they say.

In both cases, they are problematic behaviors because not only do they disorganize their lives, but this way of proceeding makes others not trust them. It also diminishes the possibility of obtaining the best results and they are more unlikely to carry out complex tasks that require continuity and constancy.
